Take the Pledge
Coach Lee Rose, a native of Estill County, Kentucky, is one of only 10 NCAA basketball coaches to take two different teams to the NCAA Final Four.  Coach Rose has spoken to thousands of students in the Forward in the Fifth service area about growing up in Appalachia.  He discusses what life was like growing up poor and how he set goals and worked hard to become a success.  He shares stories and provides insight on interactions with players such as Michael Jordan, Tony Delk, Cedric Maxwell and Jamal Mashburn, and lists five assets that all students should develop if they want to succeed.  Coach Rose believes that the first step to success is a good education and is asking students to pledge to take their education n as far as they can.  If you would like to take the pledge, go here.  
 
Career Clusters

The Individual Graduation Plan is designed around Kentucky’s 14 Career Clusters. These clusters include several occupations that share common characteristics and job duties. College Admission
Opportunities for college and university admission require that students meet a variety of guidelines including, but not limited to, preparation and completion of certain high school subjects, minimum ACT or SAT scores, and a variety of other factors.  General guidelines for college admission can be found by going here.

Bullying is a problem in many schools.  If you are an adolescent and have been bullied or know someone who has, go here to find out what you should do. 
 
Individual Learning Plans

Beginning the 2006-2007 school year, middle and high school students in Kentucky schools have a new online education planning tool at their fingertips. The  new web-enabled  Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will help secondary students (grades 6-12) better focus their coursework on individual goals as they prepare for postsecondary studies and careers. Kentucky PSA 2008 Video Contest
Coordinted by The Real School and the Kentucky Department of Education's Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP), this is an opportunity to compete with other students across Kentucky in the creation of a video public service anouncement.  Three different age categories (elementary, middle, and high) will competefor great prizes.
